The Lahaul and Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh consists of the two formerly separate districts of Lahaul and Spiti. The present administrative centre is Keylong in Lahaul. Befor the two districts were merged, Kardang was the capital of Lahaul, and Dhankar the capital of Spiti.
The 2 valleys are quite different in character. Spiti is more barren and difficult to cross, with an average elevation of 4,270m. If it enclosed between lofty ranges, with the Spiti river rushing out of a gorge in the southeast to meet the Sutlej River.
The harsh conditions of Lahaul permit only scattered tufts of hardy grasses and shrubs to grow, even below 4km. Glacier lines are usually found at 5km. Due to certain climate changes, nowadays people are being able to grow some vegetables in Lahaul valley – cabbage, patato, green peas, radish, tamato, carrot and all types of leafy vegetables.

Day 1
Arrive Manali (2050 m)

Arrive Manali, check-in hotel and relax. Afternoon visit Hadimba Temple, Vashista Bath and mall road. Overnight stay in Manali.

Day 2
Manali / Rohtang Pass / Kanzu Pass / Kaza (202 km)

Morning drive Manali / Kaza by car. Drive through beautiful mountain roads, picturesque valley and pass through Rohtang Pass and Kunzu Pass. The town Kaza (3650 m) or Kaze is the subdivisional headquarters of the remote Spiti Valley in the western Himalayas in the Lahaul and Spiti district of northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. Kaza is the largest township and commercial center of the Spiti valley. Arrive Kaza and explore. Evening relax and overnight stay in Kaza.

Day 3
Kaza

Today visit Ki Monastery – a remotely located Monastery and is a world-famous centre for learning. The monastry serves as a great place to find peace and calm. Also visit Pin Valley – a national park in 1987 and is home to at least 12 endangered snow leopards. Later visit Kungri Monastery and the beautiful hamlet of Mud – the last motorable village of the Pin Valley. Overnight stay in Kaza.

Day 4
Kaza / Langza (16 km)

Morning drive Kaza / Langza by car. The highest village in Asia – Komic village situated at a height of 4513m has a population of 84 people and is cut off from the rest of the world for most parts of the year. Also drive to Hikkim – a place where we can send postcards from the world’s highest post office. Langza Village (4400m) – a beatiful destination in Spiti Valley of Himachal Pradesh. This picturesque village is blessed with ancient monasteries and buildings of the prehistoric era when Spiti was submerged by the Tethys Sea. Explore a land very rich with fossils of Marine animals and plants which were here millions of years ago. Langza village is certainly the best places in the whole Spiti Valley. Day 5
Langza / Dhankar / Kaza (82 km)

Morning drive Langza / Dhankar by car. Arrive Dhankar (3894 m), hike to the lake and explore he beautiful village along the monastery. Dhankar – a large high village used to be the capital of the Spiti Valley in Himachal Pradesh, India. Above village sits the local monastery – the Dhankar Gompa. Total no of houses are 68. Evening drive back to Kaza and overnight stay in Kaza.

Day 6
Kaza / Chandratal Lake

Morning drive Kaza / Chandratal Lake by Car. Arrive Gigantic Chandratal Lake and pitch tents along the lake, surrounding the majestic mountains. Chandra Tal (4300 m) is a lake in the Spiti part of the Lahul and Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh, India. Mountains of scree overlook the lake on one side and a cirque encloses it on the other. Relax and explore the area. Overnight stay in tents near Chandratal Lake.

Day 7
Chandratal Lake / Manali

Morning drive Chandratal Lake / Manali by Car. Drive through the beautiful scenery and majestic mountains. Arrive Manali, check-in hotel and relax. Overnight stay in Manali.

Day 8
Depart Manali

Morning transfer to Kullu Airport to connect flight for home.
