Nepal TourismWorld Heritage Sites in NepalThis Stupa, having hundereds of voltive shrines and other historical monuments in and around it, was built in 250 B.C. This is the largest stupa in Nepal and it displays typical Buddhist architecture. This white dome is regarded as a spotless and pure jewel of Nirvana. It has thirteen tiers, representing the elevator to Nirvana, and a pair of painted eyes on all four sides of this stupa, symbolizing the all seeing eyes of the Buddha. Other important places around Swayambhu are: The temple dedicated to Harati, the goddess of all children. It is said that she was an ogress before Lord Buddha converted her to be the caretaker of all children, who is now worshipped. The Dewa Dharma Monastry, noted for a bronze icon of Buddha and traditional Tibetan paintings. The huge gold plated Vajra set in the east - side of the stupa.
