Kailash Manasarovar Yatra
A place where the divine takes earthly form.
For Hindus it is kailash for Jains- Ashtapada - Meru, for Buddhist - Kang Rinpoche
Lord Shiva’s eternal abode is always Kailash – he dwells with his consort Parvati.
For Hindus, Kailash is the physical manifestation of the revered Mount Meru, the centre of the world.
Mount Kailash and Mansarovar pilgrimage in Western Tibet has always inspired Hindu, Buddhist, Jain and Bon devotees to brave immeasurable difficulties in order to perform a holy circumambulation (Kora in Tibet & parikrama in Sanskrit) of the Holy Mt. Kailash and Lake Mansarovar. Mt. Kailash has strange tracings on its strikingly distict four faces. (North, South, East & West)
Nearby is Nandi - the sacred bull on which Shiva rides, faces the linga.
There are two magnificent lakes facing it – one shaped like the sun, is the Mansaorvar, the other, shaped like moon, is the Rakshas Tal.
The pilgrimage to Mansarovar is very important for Indian Pilgrims. Unlike other yatras, this one takes place in remote, foreign and inhospitable terrain. The most challenging and potentially life-threatening, all of which need to be taken into account while making preparations. Successful Kailash Parikrama (Kora) depends upon adequate preparedness.
A Kailash-Mansarover region is the origin of Indus, Satluj, Karnali and Brahamputra rivers.
Once you have seen this place, you can rightfully feel that you did not have such an experience in the past and you are not likely to have any in the future. |
